Top Rated Web Host Companies

DreamHost has been around for a long time, but longevity alone is not enough reason to choose a web host in 2026.

The more useful question is whether DreamHost’s current hosting plans, WordPress tools, backups, support and pricing still make sense for the kind of website you are running today.

DreamHost now offers a mix of standard web hosting, managed WordPress through DreamPress, VPS and dedicated hosting. Its current WordPress plans include features such as NVMe SSD storage, daily automated backups, free SSL and migration options, while DreamPress adds staging, on-demand backups, CDN services and specialist WordPress support.

In this review, we’ll look at:

  • what DreamHost offers in 2026;
  • how its standard hosting differs from DreamPress;
  • backups and recovery;
  • support;
  • migration options;
  • pricing and renewal costs;
  • what we like;
  • what to watch;
  • and who DreamHost is best suited to.

DreamHost at a Glance

DreamHost is a long-established hosting provider offering:

  • shared web hosting;
  • WordPress hosting;
  • managed WordPress through DreamPress;
  • VPS hosting;
  • dedicated hosting;
  • free SSL;
  • daily automated backups on current WordPress hosting;
  • migration options;
  • 24/7 support.

For us, the main distinction is between DreamHost’s more conventional hosting plans and DreamPress, which is the managed WordPress service.

Standard WordPress Hosting vs DreamPress

DreamHost makes WordPress available across several hosting types, including shared hosting, VPS, dedicated servers and DreamPress. Its own documentation describes DreamPress as the managed WordPress option, designed with added caching, memory management and a more managed environment.

That means the right DreamHost product depends heavily on what you actually need.

A smaller site may be perfectly well served by standard WordPress hosting.

A more important business website may benefit from DreamPress features such as:

  • one-click staging;
  • daily and on-demand backups;
  • CDN integration;
  • managed performance features;
  • specialist WordPress support.

Our view: We would not automatically pay for DreamPress on a simple brochure website. We would consider it when the site is commercially important enough that staging, backups, recovery and managed support save meaningful time or reduce risk.

Backups and Restore

DreamHost’s backup system needs a little nuance because the backup arrangements differ depending on the hosting product.

For DreamPress, DreamHost provides automated daily backups, on-demand backups and one-click restore. Backup retention varies by plan, with current DreamPress plans showing retention periods beginning around 14 days.

For broader hosting accounts, DreamHost says it generally keeps around two weeks of website backups and about five days of database backups, but these backups are not guaranteed as a long-term backup service. DreamHost itself recommends keeping your own off-site backups as well.

That is much more precise than the old review’s blanket “97-day money-back” and generic backup language.

Our view: DreamHost’s current backup tools are useful, particularly on DreamPress, but we would still keep an independent off-site backup for an important website.

DreamHost Support

DreamHost provides 24/7 support through its panel and chat systems, with WordPress-specific support included on DreamPress.

Support is especially important on managed hosting because part of what you are paying for is help with the hosting environment.

At the same time, hosting support should not be confused with having a developer on call. A host can help with infrastructure, WordPress hosting issues and account-level problems, but it may not repair custom code, redesign pages or troubleshoot every third-party plugin.

Our view: DreamHost’s support proposition becomes more valuable as the website becomes more important to the business.

Migration to DreamHost

DreamHost offers several ways to move an existing WordPress site onto its platform.

For DreamPress, customers can use a free professional migration handled by DreamHost, a free automated migration plugin, or a manual migration process.

For standard WordPress migrations, DreamHost also provides a site-transfer process through its account tools. Non-WordPress migrations may be available as a paid service.

That flexibility is useful because migration requirements vary.

A simple WordPress site may move easily with an automated tool.

A larger or more complicated business site may be better handled by the hosting provider or by a developer who can check:

  • databases;
  • DNS;
  • email;
  • SSL;
  • redirects;
  • caching;
  • forms;
  • ecommerce;
  • and any custom functionality.

Our view: Free migration support is one of the more practical reasons to consider DreamHost, particularly when moving an established WordPress site where downtime or missed configuration would create problems.

Performance and Infrastructure

DreamHost’s current WordPress products use SSD/NVMe-based storage and managed caching features depending on the plan.

DreamPress is the more managed option and includes tools such as staging and platform-level performance management. Its staging environment lets website owners test changes away from the live site before publishing them.

That can be especially valuable for:

  • plugin updates;
  • theme changes;
  • PHP upgrades;
  • ecommerce changes;
  • major design work.

At the same time, hosting alone cannot fix a poorly built website.

Large images, excessive plugins, inefficient themes and database problems can still make a site slow regardless of the hosting platform.

Our view: We would judge DreamHost performance by the type of site being hosted and the plan chosen, rather than relying on an old single “speed” number like the 854 ms shown in the previous review.

Pricing and Refund Policy

DreamHost’s pricing varies by product and billing term, so we would not hard-code old promotional prices into this review unless there is a strong reason to do so.

Before signing up, we would compare:

  • introductory price;
  • renewal price;
  • monthly versus annual billing;
  • email inclusion;
  • storage and resource limits;
  • backup features;
  • migration support;
  • number of websites;
  • and upgrade costs.

One important correction from the old review is the refund policy.

DreamHost’s current documentation states that its shared Web Hosting plans have a 30-day refund period, rather than the old 97-day guarantee described in this page’s previous version.

Our view: This is exactly why older hosting reviews need regular maintenance. Refund policies, plan names and inclusions change, and readers should make decisions using the current terms rather than historical offers.

What We Like About DreamHost

  • Long-established hosting company
  • WordPress-focused hosting options
  • DreamPress managed WordPress service
  • Free SSL
  • Migration options
  • Daily backups on DreamPress
  • Staging environments
  • 24/7 support
  • Clear upgrade paths across hosting products

What to Watch

  • Features differ significantly between standard hosting and DreamPress
  • Managed WordPress costs more than basic hosting
  • Current refund terms are shorter than the old 97-day policy
  • VPS migrations can require more manual work
  • Some businesses may need separate email or additional services depending on plan
  • Not every small website needs the extra features of DreamPress

Who DreamHost Is Best Suited To

We would consider DreamHost for:

  • WordPress website owners;
  • small and medium businesses;
  • site owners wanting migration help;
  • websites that benefit from daily backups;
  • users wanting a managed WordPress upgrade path;
  • businesses that value staging and easier recovery tools.

DreamPress makes more sense when the website is important enough that the managed environment, backups and staging justify paying more.

For a very small brochure site or hobby site, a simpler and cheaper hosting option may be enough.

DreamHost Review 2026: Final Thoughts

DreamHost still deserves consideration in 2026, but not for the reasons given in the old review.

We would no longer base the recommendation on “unlimited” storage, a 97-day refund period or an old speed benchmark.

The stronger reasons to consider DreamHost today are:

  • WordPress support;
  • DreamPress managed hosting;
  • backups;
  • staging;
  • migration tools;
  • SSL;
  • and a long-established hosting platform.

For a business or WordPress website that needs more than the cheapest possible hosting, DreamHost remains a credible option.

The key is choosing the right plan for the actual website rather than assuming every DreamHost product offers the same features.
